Skincare Basics— Morning skincare routine

Beautiful skin is essential for looking good and feeling good.  In the next few posts, I will give you some basic information about skincare routines.  It’s a good start if you have never been into skincare before.  It might sound complicated; it’s actually not once you establish your own routine.  The posts will be organized around four main topics: morning skincare routine, nighttime skincare routine, and facials.

For morning skincare, use only mild milk/lotion style facial cleanser if you feel that you must use something.  My suggestion would be to use only lukewarm water.  The assumption is that you have cleaned your face thoroughly the night before.  The natural secretion of your skin overnight, i.e. the skin oil, is beneficial in keeping your skin moisturized during the day.
After washing, pat dry, and then, wipe your face with a cotton pad soaked with moisturizing toner.  The one I use is alcohol free.  I avoid using astringent because it generally has higher alcohol content. But if you have especially oily skin, by all means, use an astringent. In future posts, I will teach you how to make your own moisturizing toner from the ingredients you can find in your kitchen.
Use your finger to pat on a thin layer of eye gel/cream around your eyes.  Then, pat on a thin layer of serum all over your face and neck.  Next, around eyes, pat on a layer of eye moisturizer with at least SPF 15.  On the face and neck (absolutely, don’t forget the neck part), pat on a layer of facial treatment lotion or cream.  In general, try to avoid using things containing AHA and retinol during the day.  Retinol is very light sensitive, and AHA makes your skin very light sensitive, which will make your skin vulnerable to the damaging effect of UV.  After that, cover your face with a moisturizer with at least SPF 30.  There are some moisturizers on the market with SPF 45, if you live in an area with lots of sunlight exposure, use them.  Also, please remember to change your skincare product according to the season.  I generally use lotion or gel in summer and cream in winter.

Please note that this routine assumes that you are not wearing makeup.  If you routinely wear makeup, use a liquid foundation before or after moisturizer.
