Skin is the
biggest organ in our body. Systematic
skincare means that we treat our skin as part of our body, just as the way we
treat our heart. When the heart has
problem, we don’t just fix it with surgery or medication. We exercise, we watch our diet, and we change
our life style. There is no reason to treat our skin any
differently from our heart.
Effective skincare requires a systematic approach. Chinese medicine teaches that face is the focal points of Yang. Facial skin, underlying muscles, and facial features are nourished and supported by systematic blood circulation directly connected to major internal organs. According to Chinese medicine, each major organ is in charge of skin conditions at different parts of the face.

Facial skin, underlying muscles, and facial features are nourished and supported by systematic blood circulation directly connected to major internal organs. According to Chinese medicine, each major organ is in charge of skin conditions at different parts of the face.
Specifically, it is believed that heart is in
charge of skin condition on the front forehead; kidney is in charge of the skin
condition on the chin; liver is in charge of the skin condition on the left
cheek; lung is in charge of skin condition on the right cheek; and spleen is in
charge of skin condition on the nose and lips.
Therefore, the skin condition at different parts of the face reflects
the condition of different internal organs.
There is no need to take the ancient Chinese
teaching literally. However, I do
believe that taking care of skin problems requires not only topic and
symptomatic treatment but also the systematic treatment.
